The Production Journey

From Idea to Finished Film

Film is more than cameras and editing. It begins with observation, story, authorship, and preparation, then moves through scripting, preproduction, directing, performance, cinematography, sound, editing, finishing, and presentation.

Students learn how these stages connect and how decisions made early affect the final screen experience. AI-supported tools may assist with ideation, previsualization, planning, masking, editing, localization, and workflow testing, but creative authority, ethical judgment, and responsibility remain with the filmmaker.

Authorship and Cultural Context

Stories Shaped by Place

Saudi Arabia’s expanding screen, entertainment, tourism, cultural, and digital-media sectors require more than production infrastructure. They require people who can observe their surroundings, represent communities responsibly, and turn local stories, places, identities, and experiences into authored screen work.

The program develops visual literacy, documentary awareness, directorial voice, collaboration, and production discipline. Students do not need to arrive with a finished style. Through repeated writing, filming, critique, and revision, they begin discovering what they want to say and how they want an audience to experience it.

What Students Create

Students develop scripts, treatments, storyboards, shot lists, production plans, directing exercises, documentary work, cinematography studies, edited sequences, AI-supported workflow records, pitch materials, and portfolio evidence.

The program culminates in a personally authored short film supported by producing, rehearsal, camera, sound, post-production, finishing, and presentation. Students must explain the choices they made, the feedback they received, what they revised, and how any AI tools were used.
